Op 86 jarige leeftijd is Bea Arthur in 2009 overleden.Geboren als Bernice Frankel op 13 mei 1922 in New York City, overleden aan longkanker op 25 april 2009 in Los Angeles, Californië. Ze is voornamelijk bekend van haar hoofdrol in de televisieserie "The Golden Girls" (1985-1992), waarin ze Dorothy Petrillo Zbornak speelde. De andere hoofdrollen werden vervuld door Betty White (Rose Nylund), Rue McClanahan (Blanche Devereaux) en Estelle Getty (Sophia Petrillo). Voor haar televiewerk ontving ze 10 Golden Globe- en 11 Emmy-nominaties. Ze won 2 Emmy’s, voor haar rol als Maude Findlay in de televisieserie "Maude" en voor haar rol als Dorothy in "The Golden Girls".
