Op 89 jarige leeftijd is Maggie Smith in 2024 overleden.

Ze won in 1970 de Oscar voor beste actrice, voor haar hoofdrol in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) en in 1979 ontving ze de Oscar voor beste actrice in een bijrol, voor California Suite (1978). Daarnaast won ze4 Emmy's, 3 Golden Globes en 5 BAFTA's (de Britse filmprijzen). Ze won ook een Tony Award, waarmee ze een van de weinige acteurs is die de Triple Crown of Acting (Oscar, Emmy, Tony) heeft gewonnen. In 1970 werd ze geridderd tot Commander (CBE) en in 1990 tot Dame Commander (DBE) in de Orde van het Britse Rijk.
